Conference to be held 29-30 November 2005, Hotel Okura, Amsterdam

Egham, UK 27 September 2005 — Gartner today announced it will introduce a new annual conference on the topic of Data Center in Europe. The Gartner Data Center summit will be held from 29-30 November 2005 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The conference will focus on the steps organisations need to take in the next five years to chart their course from where they are today to where their business will need them to be.

“The Data Center summit may be new to EMEA audiences, yet it builds on a strong legacy. Gartner's Data Center conference in the US, now in its 24th edition, is the most mature conference that Gartner runs. It attracts a growing number of attendees year after year, with a record attendance of 1,400 delegates in 2004” said Alister Christopher, head of worldwide events at Gartner. “We are launching this conference in Europe in response to increasing demand from our clients and to assist them in making more informed business and technology decisions on developing and managing an agile IT infrastructure.”

According to Andy Butler, vice president and conference co-chairman, “The next five to ten years will bring the biggest architectural shift in client computing we've seen in over a decade, as well as convergence of servers, networking and storage technology. In parallel, we will see new classes of workload that transform the ways vendors design their products. These trends will impose tremendous change on the way that software and hardware are bought, integrated, managed and retired. Now is the time for organisations to plan for this change, or they face being drawn into a race where they will be constantly behind the curve.”

At The European Data Center summit, 11 of Gartner's leading analysts will explore the current state and future evolution of topics including:
  • The future of computing infrastructures: real-time and virtual
  • The future of the server
  • The future of client computing
  • The future of networking technologies
  • How to get more for less in storage procurement
  • Enterprise Linux
  • PC and server virtualization
  • Evolving IT operations management to yield business results
  • Preparing for the IT infrastructure of 2015
The summit will be opened by Andy Butler and Brian Gammage, research vice president, conference chairmen. Tom Bittman, research fellow at Gartner, will present Gartner's opening keynote on the future of computing infrastructures. Steve Prentice, group vice president and chief of research at Gartner, will present the Gartner closing keynote on preparing for the IT infrastructure of 2015.

Gartner analyst presentations will be complemented by guest speakers Bob Evans, director general, IS operations at France Telecom and Paul Bell, senior vice president at Dell in EMEA.

An integral part of the summit is the demonstration forum, where infrastructure technology providers will give attendees and press an opportunity to see and experience the latest technology solutions.
