GartnerGroup Accelerates Services Business
STAMFORD, Conn., November 1, 1999 -- Gartner Group, Inc. (NYSE: IT) has built its $734 million business largely on research and advisory services sold in a subscription-based model. Today, the company announced GartnerGroup Services, an aggressive consulting services business that will leverage GartnerGroup's world-class research and advisory services to provide powerful solutions delivery capabilities for GartnerGroup's 9,000 clients -- from strategy to results.
GartnerGroup Services programs are led by Henry Satterthwaite, senior vice president and general manager, and include all of GartnerGroup's consulting, measurement, and IT Executive Program offerings. The company is making a significant investment to add to its consultant base -- each of whom averages 18 years of IT and business experience -- and expects to rapidly expand this business within the next two years. In 1999, GartnerGroup Services completed more than 2,000 engagements in areas ranging from e-business strategy and implementation to measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of manufacturing operations. GartnerGroup expects the number of engagements to more than double in the next two years.
Michael Fleisher, president and chief executive officer, stated "For 20 years, GartnerGroup has led the way in the industry it created -- subscription-based IT research and advice. Today, we are building on that strong foundation to launch GartnerGroup Services, a global, world-class consulting and solutions delivery organization."
Mr. Satterthwaite added, "One of our clients put it best when he said, 'Advice is good. Help is even better.' GartnerGroup Services leverages the research and advisory knowledge base of GartnerGroup. We will assist clients in developing their strategies and then we will roll up our sleeves to help clients obtain their business results. GartnerGroup is here to help our clients use technology to achieve their business objectives."
According to GartnerGroup research, total IT spending worldwide in 1999 is $2.2 trillion. By 2002, total worldwide IT spending is estimated to be $3.3 trillion, with up to half of that attributed to e-business.
"By expanding our business model, we are increasing our business opportunity exponentially," said Mr. Fleisher. "Our investments in analysts, consultants, infrastructure and marketing will set the foundation for GartnerGroup's next 20 years as the world's business technology advisor."
