LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida, October 10, 2001 - Gartner, Inc.(NYSE: IT and ITB) today announced Gartner Vendor Ratings, an evaluation system by Gartner analysts that rates top technology vendors to help IT users determine purchasing strategies.
Gartner Vendor Ratings assesses overall technology product and service performance for top vendors overall, and also individually assesses key product lines for viability for purchase and implementation. The proprietary rating system is culminated in two broad technology recommendation listings: Gartner's Purchase Opportunity List and Gartner's Purchase Caution List.
"Gartner analysts interact with clients 1,000 times per day," said Bob Knapp, executive vice president for Gartner Research and Advisory Services. "Only Gartner has the knowledge from the users and the insight from vendors to create this system. Gartner Vendor Ratings gives CIOs the strategic overview they need to justify technology spending choices. The assessment also delivers a current situation analysis for technology marketers."
Gartner analyst Betsy Burton pioneered the vendor rating system.
"The IT landscape is shifting on a daily basis and our user clients are demanding real-time and strategic advice on technologies they own now and those they are considering to invest in," Burton said. "The Gartner Vendor Rating articulates actionable advice to our clients with a high degree of immediacy."
